For the 4.44 automatic swap: 1996-1998 Legacy Gt and Outback and 1998 Forester. Must have the 2.5 engine in it and the transmission must be phase 1 (phase 2 have a spin on filter and will not work). All you need is the transmission and rear diff. You will need to swap the 4.44 gear into the Svx diff. (you'll find a few write ups on how if you research. Will cost very little if you do the work yourself. That's it.

For the Manual swap: Any manual trans attached to a EJ engine will work. Turbo model ones will be safer and more reliable to hard driving (ex, WRX). There's lots of different ratios so homework is required. Its gonna be more expensive but, its a manual, cant beat the fun! Anyways, If you really spend money and go with an Sti 6 Speed, that's the strongest.

But either way you just gotta do some reading. If you join Svx Nation on Facebook, or Svx World Network as well, you'll get lots of information on any question you have Svx related. Sorry for this being long, im bored and stuck at home...

Goood job thanks for jumping in. I did not want to give misleading info. You nailed it. Either swap Is better that that stock tranny. If the car is on the original tranny and is over 100,000 miles it is only a matter of time if it is not already. x.

One last question, with the svx being an automatic, is it still fun to drive? Is it somewhat quick as well? What I really want in a project car is exhaust sound, fun to drive, and some what rare. Do you guys think it fills all those in?

Very rare. Only 3 in My area. I go to shows and people
Say either. I never saw one. Or I remember this but never saw one up close. Or what is it. It is fast. As an auto about 8sec 0 to
60. 100 mph 1/4 mile maybe 14 sec. the auto
Is faster 1/4 mile especially the 4:44 ( because of shifting. ) nice car to drive handles great. Top speed govern at 140 standard shift will be more. Mine is loud with the Serbro exhaust

Ok. You know what? I might have to buy the one I'm looking at. I'll let you guys know. Do you think $2k would be a good price to offer or should I try to go lower?

Miles on car? Interior is not mentioned. Everything is working? Hard. A good one is worth that. If it has problems. Seems he has addressed a few ( wheel bearings , and the brakes ) just don't know if you will always wish it was an 5 speed . No reason to do any tranny work. The car is far from a dog. Until the shifting gets irratic leave it alone.

He has it set do 150k miles. He has listed some of the maintenance he's gotten done. Yea I do wish there were some interior pictures. I've been watching the car for awhile now. I remember he had in the description that it is a smoker car. I don't mind that. I can fix it. Just am not sure if it's project car material. I really do like it though.

Yes, I'd give 2k for that car. 0-60 is more like 7.3-7.5 on the stock trans, the 4.44 trans will drop it down into the mid 6 range. And 1992 did not have the speed limiter so if you got a long enough road, you can max out the speedometer. It is a very fun car to drive, yes it's not a racecar, its meant to be a gt tourer, but the handling mixed with the sound, experience and smooth speed makes it a wonderful car. Out of all the cars i drove, the Svx is by far my favorite.
